Does your course transfer? And holiday reads for committed teachers.

Website helps students transfer credits

I was recently alerted to a website that Normandale subscribes to that shows students and faculty what courses offered at Normandale transfer to what other colleges. is shows colleges and universities across the country (but not all.) The site showed that my world history 1 course would transfer to Colorado State University and Purdue University. Tell your students. Free sign-up required.

Treat yourself to better teaching this holiday season with new books:

Minds Online: Teaching Effectively with Technology. Michelle Miller is a Professor of Psychology. Miller uses techniques validated by the research in Make it Stick: The Science of Successful Learning, by Peter Brown, Henry Roedigger, and Mark McDanial. Make it Stick is the smartest book on teaching I’ve read in ten years, and makes me uncomfortable with many of my current teaching strategies.

For the scientifically inquisitive, consider Edward O Wilson’s Letters to a Young Scientist. From the blurb: “Wilson insists that success in the sciences does not depend on mathematical skill, but rather a passion for finding a problem and solving it.”

And for the truly dedicated teacher the Journal of Interactive Technology & Pedagogy is out with their 6th issue. The focus is Africa for the lead articles. Invaluable for the 21st century educator.

Yes, Virginia, there really is a Winter Break. Fill your cup up, finesse your syllabi, find your courage. Happy grading faculty!
